Tricalcium phosphate (TCP), also sometimes called calcium phosphate or bone phosphate of lime (BPL), is a widely used compound with applications in industries. It is the most stable calcium salt of phosphoric acid.
**Chemical Formula:** Ca₃(PO₄)₂
**Appearance:** A white, odorless solid.
**Uses:**
**Pharmaceuticals and Nutraceuticals**: Generally used in pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals as an active ingredient or excipient in tablets, capsules, and oral solutions to provide calcium.
**Calcium Supplement:** A common source of calcium in dietary supplements for people who may not get enough calcium from their diet.
**Ceramic and Glass Industry:** TCP can be used in ceramic and glass manufacturing as a fluxing agent or stabilizer to lower melting point.
**Cosmetics and Personal Care Industry:** It is incorporated in cosmetics and personal care products, as a texture enhancer to improve product consistency, provide a smooth texture, and enhance skin feel.
**Anticaking Agent:** Prevents clumping in powdered foods like table salt, spices, and powdered drink mixes.
**Calcium Fortification:** It is used to increase the calcium content of some processed foods like breakfast cereals and flour.
